Therapeutic approach

Humans live in an unpredictable world, which we both influence and are influenced by. As a psychologist, I work from a holistic perspective, seeing you as the complete person you are - including a focus on the interaction between body, mind, and culture. I base the therapy on you and your specific experience of the world, and together, we'll explore the values, beliefs, and perspectives through which you see and interact with your world.

Based on this, I'll support you in taking control of your own life and being true to yourself and your values, in order to create a greater sense of meaning in life.

There is nothing predetermined about how you experience the greatest quality of life and a sense of meaning; it is individual, and we explore it together.

Method

My work is based on fundamental ideas from existential psychology, focusing on how we as humans create meaning in our lives. Additionally, I employ specific cognitive methods, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In these approaches, we examine our thoughts and how they affect our emotions, bodily sensations, and behaviors. In ACT, the emphasis lies on developing the ability to engage with and acknowledge present experiences as they are, rather than being driven by thoughts of the past or future. We will also explore your values as a person, as these serve as an internal GPS guiding our actions (read more).

In ACT, unpleasant thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are not seen as "symptoms" to be fought against, but rather as entirely natural and normal processes. Therefore, the goal is to practice taking control or power over our actions and language, reducing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that are not constructive for living authentically and being present.

Starting a course

Typically, I will start a therapy process by asking about your current life situation and what has led you to meet with me. We discuss your expectations and desires for the therapy process, and the therapy is always tailored to your needs.

I often use a whiteboard in therapy to introduce tools and techniques for you to use. Additionally, the whiteboard is a useful tool for gaining an overview of overwelming thoughts and emotions.

Focus points in the first session:

  • What has brought you here today?
  • What does your life look like in terms of jobsituation, relationships, family, free time etc.
  • Your expectations for a therapy course
  • Exercises or reflections to do until next time
  • Evaluation of the session
